2024 Barfly Open Golf Tournament, benefiting Tri-Lakes Humane Society, raises over $9,000
LAKE PLACID – A record total of 124 players raised $9,329 in the annual Barfly Open Golf Tournament, benefitting the Tri-Lakes Humane Society. The September event, held in glorious fall weather, generated needed funds for the voiceless residents of the TLHS.
“The Barfly tournament is one of our biggest events for our four-legged family members who need care and loving homes,” said society President Lea Bedore. “We thank John and Marie Morgan, presenting sponsor High Peaks Distributing, and Rock Bottom Golf for collaborating in our behalf. And of course, the players come out for us each year, all making this a big success.”
The society is the local no-kill animal shelter that provides dog control services, food pantry services, loving animal care and shelter to all the homeless companion animals in the Tri-Lakes region and beyond.
“The money raised tells us everything we need to know about our friends in the region’s hospitality industry,” said Mike Shaheen, General Manager of High Peaks Distributing. “They have busy schedules and work long hours, but have always had time to assist the society.”
The two-man scramble team of Dennis Gallegher and Mike Martineau, who posted a four under par 67 on the Lake Placid Club Links Course, topped the field. The minimum handicap total for each team was 20.
In the mixed division, Tom and Liz Meldrin were victorious shooting one over par, while in the women’s bracket, the duo of Sue Devlin and Cherie Muhler recorded the same one over par score en route to the title.
“Each year that we are involved in the Barfly Tournament, we are more and more amazed with the kindness and generosity of the players,” stated Tom Rath, Founder/CEO of Rock Bottom Golf. “Pets are considered family members and this tournament illustrates that care and affection.”
All donated monies go directly to feeding, sheltering, and giving medical care to animals in need.
