WILMINGTON — The 7th annual Wilmington Trunk-or-Treat was thoroughly enjoyed by kids and adult volunteer vendors from across the region, according to its longtime organizer.
Tina Terry Preston, who began and has been with the event each year, estimated 483 trunk-or-treaters came from across the region — as far away as Plattsburgh — to get candy from 39 vendors who volunteered.
“Being able to sit on the tractors, play on the hay bales, and go through the mazes was a lot of fun for the kids,” she said. “The variety was really enjoyed by everyone.”
The event, which took place on Sunday, Oct. 27 at the Wilmington KOA, has grown each year. Preston said she began the event as a way for people to gather safely in a rural area that can be hard to trick-or-treat in conventionally.
“Homes can be far apart for trick-or-treating around here,” she said. “This way, everyone can come to one safe environment where it’s drug and alcohol-free.”

Preston said that plans for next year are already in motion.
“We have vendors lined up already,” she said. “They are excited and ready to go, and, we already have our food truck booked for next year.”
