LAKE PLACID — Lake Placid residents Katie Brennan and Andrew Quinn earned spots on the Lake Placid Village Board of Trustees Tuesday, March 21 in the village election, both running uncontested.

There were no other village positions or propositions on the ballot.

Brennan and Quinn earned 72 and 80 votes, respectively. There were three votes cast for write-in candidates, according to village Clerk Anita Estling. Two of the write-in votes were for Colin Hayes, who ran for a seat on the village board in 2021. A total of 90 people voted in the election; 80 ballots were cast in person and 10 absentee. Forty total absentee ballots were mailed out, according to Estling. The absentee ballots that were not returned by the election will not be counted, she said.

Brennan and Quinn will serve four-year terms, replacing former trustee Jason Leon — who was term-limited, and who resigned last October — and Deputy Mayor Peter Holderied, who was also term-limited and could not run for reelection. Leon was elected to the North Elba Town Council in November 2021.

Brennan has been serving on the village board since this past November, when she was appointed by village Mayor Art Devlin to finish the remainder of Leon’s term.

Brennan ran on the independent Lake Placid Together line. Originally from Lake Placid, she traveled to London for graduate school and spent 17 years in the United Kingdom before returning with her family in August 2021. She spent some time volunteering with the Lake Placid-North Elba Community Development Commission before joining the board, and she continues to work with the development commission.

Quinn ran on the independent Integrity line. Though new to the Lake Placid village board, he served on the Keene Town Council before moving to Lake Placid in 2001. A Keene Valley native, Quinn owned the former Desperados restaurant on Saranac Avenue in Lake Placid for 26 years. He’s served as an Essex County commissioner of jurors since 2017.

Quinn has an associate degree in forestry from Paul Smith’s College and a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Plattsburgh. He was a member of the Keene Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. Quinn said he coached youth baseball and soccer in Lake Placid.
