LAKE PLACID — Main Street will return to two-way traffic by Friday, July 1, according to village officials, as construction takes a summer break in July and August, typically the busiest months for tourism in this village.

Parkside Drive, which has been one-way since construction resumed in April, will also return to two-way traffic between Main Street and Morningside Drive.

The traffic light at the intersection of Olympic Drive and Main Street is being shut down and will possibly be removed. However, the traffic light at the intersection of Wesvalley Road and Saranac Avenue will continue to operate for the summer.

“Crews made tremendous progress this spring and sidewalk installation is ahead of schedule,” the village states in an email.

The sidewalk on the lake side of Main Street is finished, and the hill side is completed as far as Starbucks.

Minor work will continue this summer to finish water services at the lower end of Main Street, and those projects are expected to be completed in July. Moreover, minor sidewalk work will be completed in front of the large municipal parking lot across from the post office.

Construction work on Main Street will resume in full after Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, including the completion of the sidewalks and plantings.

“The village appreciates the hard work of the crews and the patience of residents, store owners and visitors,” the village stated in an email.

Starting at $1.44/week.
