Wilmington voters pick Tina Preston, Follos for council

Independent Tim Follos and Republican Tina L. Terry Preston will serve as Wilmington’s two newest town council members, unofficial election results show.

There were five local positions up for election in Wilmington this year — town supervisor, town clerk/tax collector, highway superintendent and two town council seats — but only the town council race was contested.

Tina Preston received 217 votes, or 30% of the total early and in-person votes, and Follos received 290 votes, 40% of the total early and in-person votes. Michelle Preston, who ran on an independent line, received 149 votes, or 20% of the total early and in-person votes; Republican Stephanie L. Gates got 64 votes, or 8.8%.

The Essex County Board of Elections sent out 34 absentee ballots to voters in Wilmington. Absentee ballots haven’t been counted yet. But even if all of those ballots are returned, and are in favor of Michelle Preston, the votes wouldn’t be enough to sway the results.

Follos is a lawyer and the owner of a small business, Esther Mountain Press. In a candidate questionnaire Follos filled out for the Enterprise last month, he said his top goals as councilor would be “to preserve Wilmington’s character,” “to prioritize Wilmington residents’ quality of life above all other considerations,” “to represent longtime locals and full-time residents,” and to see if the town wants to unify Wilmington into one school district.

Tina Preston is a medical office assistant and an EMT for the Adirondack Medical Center. In response to a candidate questionnaire from the Enterprise last month, Tina Preston said she is “community and volunteer strong” and she wants to “help our amazing community continue to grow, however, still remain Wilmington Beautification and Charm.”

Wilmington town supervisor Roy Holzer ran for reelection unopposed and garnered 373 votes, unopposed clerk candidate Dawn Stevens received 321 votes and unopposed Highway Superintendent Louis Adragna received 349 votes.
