Wildlife education center dedication to be held Sunday in Wilmington

WILMINGTON — Operators of the Adirondack Wildlife Refuge and Rehab Center will be dedicating their education center to the memory of Kayla Hanczyk on Sunday, Sept. 6.

Owners Steve and Wendy Hall will be hosting a day’s worth of programming starting with an introduction at 10 a.m.

Steve will present “Wolves, Humans, Dogs & Civilization And How That All Happened” at 10:30 a.m. and “What Do Moose & Bear Teach Us About Habitat And Why That Matters” at 12:30 p.m. Jackie and Kevin Woodcock of SkyLyfeADK will present “Bees, Butterflies, How Pollination Works And How That Benefits Humans” at 2 p.m., and the dedication ceremony of the Kayla Hanczyk Memorial Education Center will be held at 3 p.m. with Annette Hanczyk and Wendy Hall.

“Kayla Hanczyk was a beautiful and accomplished young woman, a graduate of SUNY-ESF, a wolf lover and an outdoor girl with a love for nature, whose life was struck short by a debilitating cancer,” the Halls said in a statement. “Her grieving family raised the money and built a memorial to their daughter.”

COVID-19 health guidelines will be in place, including social distancing and the requirement of face masks.

The Adirondack Wildlife Refuge is located at 977 Springfield Road in Wilmington.
