Several local government seats up for election in Essex County

There are a handful of local seats up for election in Essex County this November.

Thursday is the last day for party caucuses to send a certificate of nomination to the board of elections and the deadline to plan a caucus has passed.

Independent candidates can still file nominating petitions, from July 27 to 30.

Democratic Election Commissioner Sue Montgomery-Corey gave a list of seats in Essex County which are up for election.

In Wilmington, the highway superintendent position is up for a two-year term. The current superintendent, Louis Adragna, is currently serving on an unexpired term he was appointed to and has filed to run for reelection.

The Wilmington town justice is open for another four-year term. Current seat holder Hope Smith-Holzer has not yet filed for reelection.

The Newcomb town justice is open for a four-year term. Current seat holder Robert Ward has filed to run again.

The Moriah town justice is open for a four-year term. Current seat holder Richard Carpenter has filed to run again.

A Chesterfield town council seat is up for election. John Casey won a Republican primary for that council seat against Jerry Friedrich, 44 votes to 34 votes, respectively.

The Chesterfield town justice is open for a four-year term. Current seat holder David Bashaw has filed to run again.
