COVID-19 case is identified at St. Mary’s Church in Ticonderoga

TICONDEROGA — The Essex County Health Department says it has identified a COVID-19 case of an individual who attended St. Mary’s Church in Ticonderoga earlier this month and that it is conducting a “thorough contact tracing investigation.”

The case was identified on Sunday, June 28, and investigation revealed that the individual attended a 9 a.m. Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Ticonderoga one week earlier, June 21.

“While this person was not sick at the time of this mass, it does fall within the 48-hour exposure window used as criteria for contact tracing,” Essex County Senior Public Health Educator Andrea Whitmarsh wrote in an email.

“St. Mary’s has a comprehensive plan in place to ensure the health and safety of their parishioners, which includes mask wearing, social distancing and limits on attendance, thereby greatly reducing exposure risk to parishioners.”

Whitmarsh said the health department is asking any attendees of that service monitor themselves for symptoms through at least July 5, “out of an abundance of caution.”

Starting at $1.44/week.
