COVID-19 case reported at Tupper Lake Health Center

TUPPER LAKE — After a Tupper Lake Health Center employee tested positive for COVID-19 Tuesday, four Adirondack Health employees they work with have been quarantined, other employees there are getting tested for the virus and all appointments are being rescheduled or done remotely.

The health center is across Wawbeek Avenue from Adirondack Health’s Mercy Living Center. Last month there was a separate case of a Mercy employee who tested positive for the virus, but subsequent testing showed came back with negative results.

Adirondack Health communications Director Matt Scollin said after Tuesday’s diagnosis the health care company notified the state and county health departments and began targeted internal contact tracing to identify other Adirondack Health staff who may have interacted with the positive employee in or out of the workplace. All employees at the health center are being tested for the virus.

Four other Tupper Lake Health Center employees who were determined to have been in close contact with the positive tested person, are quarantined at home under the observation and direction of the Franklin County Public Health Department.

“All Adirondack Health staff, at every facility, are masked and take standard precautions when indoors and within six feet of others,” Scollin wrote in an email. “Adirondack Health is facilitating proactive testing of all Tupper Lake Health Center employees. Out of an abundance of caution, Tupper Lake Health Center patient appointments this week will be conducted via telehealth or rescheduled to a future date.”

Starting at $1.44/week.
