AuSABLE FORKS — One person was sent to a hospital Tuesday morning after a fire broke out at an AuSable Forks home.

The person, who has not been identified, reportedly suffered burns.

The AuSable Forks Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 2424 state Route 9N at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. Twenty-five of its members responded to the scene.

When they arrived, the front of the two-story home was engulfed in flames.

“Pretty much the whole front porch was burning, and (the fire) went up to the second story,” said Assistant Fire Chief Michael Lincoln.

The department attacked the blaze from the outside first, extinguishing flames on the exterior of the home before slowly making their way inside, according to Lincoln.

Firefighters called in mutual aid from the Jay, Wilmington and Keeseville fire departments. Between the three departments, around 10 firefighters responded, according to Lincoln.

Clinton County fire investigators are investigating the cause of the blaze. Lincoln described the state of the home as a “total loss.” It took roughly three hours to extinguish.

Clinton County property records list Roger McLean, a man whose primary address is in Ocala, Florida, as the last known owner of the home. The house was built in 1925, according to property records, though improvements to the property date back to 1900.

Starting at $1.44/week.
