The town of Malone shows the most people diagnosed and quarantined for COVID-19 in Franklin County.

At the direction of the the county Board of Legislators, Franklin County Public Health released town-level data on COVID-19 cases on Friday.

Unlike in neighboring Essex County, Franklin County’s data includes people in quarantine or isolation as well as test-confirmed cases, and suspected cases diagnosed by a doctor. The numbers, though likely not all-encompassing, give a sense of where the county’s hot spots may be — though public health officials encourage residents to behave as if the threat of exposure is everywhere.

Malone, the county’s largest town in terms of population with more than 14,000 people, had 38 people who were quarantined, or who had test-confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, as of Friday morning. That’s by far the highest number in the county but would represent 0.25% of the town’s total population as of 2017. The town with the second-highest number of reports, Moira, has less than half that at 15 — but twice as high a concentration at 0.53% of the town’s population. Third-place Dickinson’s eight equals 1% of its 800 people.

The towns of Harrietstown and Tupper Lake each had five people quarantined or with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19. Each of those towns has between 5,500 and 6,000 people, so that represents a little more than 0.1% of population.

The town of Franklin had four, which equals about 0.35% of its roughly 1,100 people. Brighton recorded one, which is about 0.07% of its roughly 1,400 residents.

Countywide, there were 10 test-confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Friday morning, according to the health department. There were an additional 32 suspected cases. A total of 99 people were either in quarantine or isolation, including those confirmed and suspected cases.

In Essex County, town-level data being released by the health department includes test-confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19. As of Thursday afternoon, there were 11 test-confirmed cases and 10 suspected cases countywide. The towns of North Elba and Moriah were tied for most in the county. North Elba had four test-confirmed cases and one suspected case. Moriah had two confirmed and three suspected cases. A total of 48 people were in isolation, precautionary or mandatory quarantine.
