Adirondack Foundation creates COVID-19 fund

LAKE PLACID — The Adirondack Foundation, partnering with the United Way of the Adirondack Region and other foundations and businesses, is activating a fund to rapidly deploy flexible resources to help meet urgent community needs in response to COVID-19.

An initial $400,000 is available to use immediately, with commitments from Adirondack Foundation, Cloudsplitter Foundation, Charles R. Wood Foundation, United Way of the Adirondack Region, Adirondack Energy’s Adirondack for Kids and other donors.

The Special and Urgent Needs Fund at Adirondack Foundation provides a way for community members to financially support vulnerable populations impacted by COVID-19-related closures.

Within 24 hours of this fund being launched last week, the Adirondack Foundation received 11 applications for funding, according to Adirondack Foundation Vice President of Communications Connie Prickett.

“We think there’s definitely a clear need out there, and people are really responding and contributing,” she said.

Grant funding will focus on four critical areas of need: access to food, child care services, support for low-wage workers and the elderly, and support for nonprofits and small businesses.

Community members interested in donating, or nonprofits in the Adirondacks interested in applying for emergency funds, can learn more on the foundation’s website at www.adirondackfoundation.org/funds/special-and-urgent-needs-fund. Businesses and individuals in need of funds must apply for grant funding through a nonprofit organization.

Starting at $1.44/week.
