3-6 inches of snow predicted today, tonight

The National Weather Service predicts 3 to 6 inches of snow will fall this afternoon and tonight.

The nearest Weather Service office in Burlington, Vermont, issued a Winter Weather Advisory this morning covering the Tr-Lakes villages of Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid as well as the rest of southern Franklin and western Essex counties, plus southeast St. Lawrence County communities such as Star Lake, western Clinton County communities such as Dannemora.

The advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Saturday.

“Snow could be moderate to heavy at times at the onset,” the advisory said. “Gusty southeasterly winds of 20 to 30 mph will also develop this afternoon and accompany the snowfall. Snow will begin to taper off after midnight tonight and will be replaced by drizzle or freezing drizzle.

“Travel could be very difficult,” the advisory added. “The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute.

“Expect snow covered roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while driving. Please allow extra time if travel is necessary.”
