Burke leads local contingent at 70.3

LAKE PLACID – The local contingent of triathletes held their own Sunday in the second Ironman Lake Placid 70.3.

Saranac Lake resident Rich Burke was the top local finisher to cross the line after completing the course that included a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run in 4 hours, 42 minutes, 31 seconds. He was the 12th overall finisher in the race and the fastest in the 50-54 age group.

Sean Davis, of Lake Placid, wasn’t far behind, compiling a time of 4:50:00. Lake Placid residents Colin Delaney (5:16:14) and Marc Galvin (5:21:47) were next and Saranac Laker Jay Niederbuhl rounded out the local top five with a time of 5:22:56.

Elizabeth Izzo was the top local female, turning in a time of 5:32:15. Izzo complete the swim course in 38:08, the bike in 3:06:33 and the run in 1:38:12.

Darci Lafave was the second-best local female with a time of 6:20:12 and Colleen Porter was third in 6:23:51. Porter’s husband Loring Porter crossed the line in 6:23:52.

Davis recorded the top swim time among the locals with a 29:54. Burke was the fastest on the bike in 2:37:45 and on the run with a 1:24:16.

There were 30 local finishers among the 2,191 overall finishers in the race.
