LAKE PLACID – There are 19 musical acts on tap for the 13th annual I Love BBQ and Music Festival July 6-8 at the Olympic Speedskating Oval.

While barbecue teams cook for competition throughout the weekend, patrons will be able to buy barbecue meals from the festival vendors and sit underneath the music tent and listen to a variety of local and regional bands.

“We try and provide a good mix of acts that people can enjoy,” said festival music organizer Gordy Sheer. “There’s solo acoustic. There’s string bands. There’s rock bands. Anything and everything, we try and keep it as diverse as possible to keep it interesting.”

Summer is a busy time for bands traveling to music venues around the continent, so it takes months to fill the music schedule for the festival. The final act was hired this past week.

“Trying to snag people off of the road is a challenge, but the good news is a lot of the local music venues are hiring more, and they’re more active than they’ve been in the past,” Sheer said. “And that’s given me a new avenue to scrape off some of the acts that they’re bringing in.”

Lake Placid’s Jim Cushman will be running sound for the bands, and Placid Productions will be donating all of the sound gear for the event.

Daily admission is $6, with youngsters under 10 admitted free of charge.
