LAKE PLACID – Lake Placid is getting ready for its Fourth of July celebration, complete with a children’s concert, parade down Main Street, Lake Placid Sinfonietta concert and the “Set the Night to Music” fireworks extravaganza.

The day’s activities on Wednesday, July 4 will begin with a free children’s concert at 10:30 a.m. in Mid’s Park on Main Street featuring Jazzy Ash & the Leaping Lizards on ukulele, guitar, banjo, accordion, fiddle, bass, trombone, sax, washboard and drums.

All are invited to participate in the annual Independence Day parade, which begins at 5 p.m. Build a float, bring out that classic car, or just don some patriotic duds and march. To participate, contact Bethany Valenze at the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism at 518-621-3662 or email bethany@lakeplacid.com for an entry form.

The Lake Placid Sinfonietta begins its 2018 Park Series with a “Champlain National Bank Lights up the Sky!” concert at 7 p.m. in the Paul White Memorial Shell at Mid’s Park. It is free and open to the public. If weather does not allow an outdoor performance, the concert will be moved to St. Agnes Church on Saranac Avenue and will begin at 7:15 p.m.

The concert will feature selections tied in to the Fourth of July, including patriotic favorites such as Irving Berlin’s “God Bless America” and Lowden’s “Armed Forces Salute” along with well-loved marches by John Philip Sousa. As a special treat, two works on the program – “Music from Lincoln” by John Williams and Leroy Anderson’s “Bugler’s Holiday” – will feature Music Director Ron Spigelman on trumpet (as well as on the podium). For more information, visit online at www.lakeplacidsinfonietta.org or call the office at 518-523-2051.

Lake Placid’s fireworks show, “Set the Night to Music,” is legendary in northern New York, attracting huge crowds to watch fireworks explode over Mirror Lake in the center of the village. Fireworks are choreographed to music, broadcast live over 93.3 WSLP-FM, beginning promptly at 9:30 p.m.

Starting at $1.44/week.
