Maple Weekends on tap in Adirondack Region

LAKE PLACID – Winter is ending and spring is right around the corner. Except for the skiing faithful, it is a sweet time of year. Partly because it means the return of warmer temperatures and partly because it’s Maple Season.

This weekend and next, New York state will celebrate Maple Weekends, and there are events on tap around the region each day on the weekends of Saturday and Sunday, March 16-17 and 23-24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. Sugar shacks in and around the Adirondacks will open their doors for tours, tastings, pancake breakfasts, wagon rides, recipes, demonstrations and more.

Each year, the Adirondack Region produces one-third of New York State’s maple syrup, according to a press release announcing the Maple Weekends, and as spring temperatures begin to rise, maple trees and sugar bushes become a hive of activity. In Northern New York, when sap begins to drip through sugaring lines, it’s a sure sign that Adirondack maple sugaring season has begun.

Maple Weekend offers visitors and residents an opportunity to taste this “liquid gold” in all its forms. Participating locations in the area include:
