LIBRARY NEWS: Lake Placid library officials wish the community well
The staff and board of the Lake Placid Public Library are hoping that everyone is doing well and staying safe during this COVID-19 pause.
We are very appreciative of the efforts made by essential workers and community leaders who are keeping basic operations going during this unusual time. Thank you! It is unfortunate that the library cannot be open during this crisis, but we accept that it is for the safety of our patrons, staff and our wider community. Please know that we really miss you!
We have all been keeping busy behind the scenes, and we will be ready when the time is right to reopen. We don’t know when or what that will look like just yet, but we will keep the public informed. Rest assured, we will be following guidelines required by county and state health departments, the CDC, the governor’s executive orders, the CEF Library System, as well as working with other libraries in the area for the best practices.
In the meantime, links to eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, fun activities, educational resources, informational resources, and adult and children’s programs can be located on our Facebook page, along with pictures from Miss Linda. Research and informational links can be found on our webpage, lakeplacidlibrary.org. While there, don’t forget to check out our view of Mirror Lake on our webcam.
One fun idea that we are suggesting is that children keep journals. This historic era will be researched for many years, and while our staff is preparing documentation for the library’s archives, we would very much like our younger patrons to contribute. Their offerings could include entries about their feelings, activities, daily schedules, homeschooling, food (I am seeing a lot of young chefs in the making), and family projects. Drawings would be equally delightful.
When this is over, we would love to create a hard copy for our archives if the author is willing to share. Any questions about this, or if anyone is having difficulty with a library card or account, with downloading a book, or with any issue or question, please email me at email@example.com.
Please stay safe and well. We look forward to seeing you soon. Our library has been the heart of our town since 1886 and will be for many more years to come.
