Fire causes minor damage at High Peaks Resort

LAKE PLACID - A chimney fire caused minor damage to the roof of the High Peaks Resort this morning.The fire started in the roof around a metal chimney at the resort's main building, according to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department, which answered the call at 9:27 a.m. with three trucks and 20 members.

Census worker to help with questions at town hall

LAKE PLACID — A Census worker will be stationed at the North Elba Town Hall to help people if they have questions while filling out their Census questionnaire.

Questionnaires are set to be mailed out over the next few weeks, said George Demas, manager of the regional Census office based in Queensbury.

Village election slated March 16

LAKE PLACID — A seat on the village board will be the only position on the ballot for Election Day on Tuesday, March 16.

Jason Leon will be on the ballot for village trustee, a spot he has held since he was appointed to the board by Mayor Craig Randall following the resignation of Peter Roy. Leon is the only candidate on the ballot for the post.
