Veterans Day services planned

LAKE PLACID - Veterans Day services are planned for this community and the town of Keene on Monday, Nov. 11.

American Legion Post 326 will start its parade at 11 a.m. at the intersection of Main Street, Saranac Avenue and Mirror Lake Drive, and it will end at the post headquarters, according to post official Bob Marvin.

Flag ceremonies will begin at 9:45 a.m. at the Adirondack Community Church with a flag lowering for Ray Donnellan and flag raising for Paul Thornton. At 10 a.m. at the former AMC Lake Placid, the flag will be retired in memory of Dr. Herbert Bergamini, and a flag will be raised in memory of Stanley VanCour. At 10:15 a.m. at Elderwood, a flag will be lowered for Larry Wood Sr. and raised for Arthur Volmrich.

At 11:20 a.m. at the post, after the parade, flags will be retired for Dr. Alexander, Marion Spence and Ken Torrance, and flags will be raised for Daniel Dougherty, Steve Perry and Raymond Pratt.

At the close of the service, all are invited to a light luncheon at the post.

In Keene, the Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Veterans Memorial Site on Cemetery Lane in Keene. In a brief ceremony, American Legion Marcy Post 1312 will honor all who have served our country and remember Nov. 11, 1918 when hostilities ceased in World War I. In addition to the solemn remembrance, there will "Echo Taps," a rifle salute and song of the era.
