John E. Giokas

John E. Giokas, 78, of Belleville, New Jersey, passed away on Aug. 20, 2018.

Born in Athens, Greece to the late Emill and Aikaterini Giokas, John came to the U.S. in 1947 and lived in Lake Placid before settling in Belleville. Graduating from Lake Placid High School in 1959, he went on to pursue a degree in electrical engineering from Canton University, graduating in 1961. He was a member of the Zeta Alpha Phi fraternity. John went on to work for the New York Telephone Co. in their Manhattan offices, retiring after 30-plus years of loyal service.

Predeceased by his parents, and his siblings, Constantine Giokas and Maria Avialiotis, John is survived by his beloved daughters, Katherine Giokas-Marshall and her husband Jeffrey, Anthula Giokas and her partner Lawrence Iovino, and Argie Sokoli and her husband Vladimir; six loving grandchildren, Kyle and Sydney Marshall, Jade and Faith Giokas, and Keira and Ethan Sokoli, and one cherished great-grandson, Logan Stephen-John Zavattaro. He is also survived by his loving former wife, Kiki Giokas; brother-in-law, John Aivaliotis; niece, Elena Tsatsaros; and nephew, Stacey Avialiotis.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Ave., Cedar Grove, New Jersey.

Burial will be on Saturday, Aug. 25 at noon at North Elba Cemetery, Lake Placid. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookscedargrove.com.
