LAKE PLACID - The 39th annual Northwood Invitational kicked off at the Olympic Center on Friday, and the host prep team got off to a solid start with a 5-2 victory over the Islanders U18 squad on the 1980 Rink.

Northwood gave up the first goal of the game, and then stormed back with the next three tallies of the contest to jump on top 3-1. The Islanders netted the final goal of the opening 25-minute half, scoring just 27 seconds before intermission to make it a 3-2 contest, but were blanked the rest of the way while the Huskies found the back of the net two more times in the second half, including an empty-netter in the closing seconds.

Weston Batt finished with two goals and an assist to lead Northwood, while Alex Ray, Grey Pfefferkorn and Sutton Allard buried one puck each in the win. Batt's second goal of the game was an empty-netter with four seconds remaining on the clock.
