Lake Placid News

LAKE PLACID - Petey Hop will take the stage at Delta Blue Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9 p.m. to midnight.

As the youngest of seven children, Hop was exposed to all kinds of music as a child. His parents were swing babies who loved the likes of Glenn Miller, Count Basie, The Dorseys, Sinatra and Duke Ellington. His six brothers and sisters gave him the influences of R&R, like The Beatles, the Stones, The Who, Cat Stevens, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Neil Young, and many others.

After studying his teenage years with Peter Frampton Alumni, Ed Monteleone, who opened his eyes to Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed and others, Pete went on to study at G.I.T., eventually graduating with honors. Through his studies, Hop was able to create a well-developed fingerpicking style and deep understanding of roots music.

Working mostly in the trio format for over 15 years, on over 3,500 live dates, Hop has learned to communicate his roots, and yet, convey a style all his own. He is equally comfortable as a solo acoustic performer, small combo rocker, or big ensemble player.

The original material that he writes is eclectic, running the gamut from straight ahead rock and roll, Americana, electric and acoustic blues, country, singer-songwriter, alternative, and other influences.

In addition to being an accomplished singer/front man, Hop is a sought after sideman. Mitch Woods regularly calls him to be one of his East Coast Rocket 88's, taking him to Greece for a two week residency at the Half Note Jazz Club in Athens, in '08 and '09. With Mitch, Pete has played The Rhythm and Roots Festival, the Michael AmoneCrawfish Festival, and The Chenango Blues Festival.

Hop has also, on occasion, shared the stage with his idols, Hubert Sumlin and Pinetop Perkins.

Hop and the Wallbangers have been featured on: WPDH Radio; Hop, solo, on WDST's "Blues Break", WVKR, and the Listening Room, and with the Wildcards on WPKN's "Antique Blues."

Hop has one original rock and roll album to his credit, "Stepping Stone," for sale through iTunes.
