Lake Placid boys, girls XC teams make top 5 in Cadyville

CADYVILLE - The Saranac Lake boys cross country team utilized its balanced lineup Saturday to take first place out of 12 teams at the Section VII Invitational meet hosted by Saranac at Cadyville Recreation Park.

Led by Anderson Gray, who took third overall, the Red Storm placed six runners in the top 20 in a race with 73 runners. Gray finished with a time of 16 minutes, 50 seconds, trailing only Seton Catholic's Caleb Moore (16:17) and Franklin Academy's Tyler Sharette (16:31).

Other top Red Storm runners were Tyler Martin, who finished seventh in 17:28, Micah McCulley (eighth, 17:31), Peter Fogarty (11th, 17:38), James Catania (14th, 17:44) and Lauchlan Cheney-Seymour (19th, 17:52).

Saranac Lake won the boys team scoring with 32 total points. Franklin Academy was second with 76 and Lake Placid was third with 92.

Scott Schulz was the Blue Bombers' top runner with his fourth-place finish in 17:05. Teammate James Flanigan took 15th in 17:46 and Jesse Izzo was 18th.

In the girls' meet, Saranac Lake placed fourth with 113 team points and Lake Placid was fifth with 120. Peru won the meet with 68 points, followed by Saranac (71) and Seton Catholic (99).

Sydney Levison, of Norwood-Norfolk, won the girls race in 19:03 and Rachael Woodruff, of Saranac, took second in 19:26.

Madison Grimone was Saranac Lake's top finisher with her 10th-place showing in 20:58. Marli Damp, of Lake Placid, took 14th in 21:18.
