By staff , Lake Placid News

World champion biathlete Lowell Bailey will put his talents on display this weekend at the U.S. Biathlon National Championships in Jericho, Vermont.

Bailey, of Lake Placid, had a career season on the World Cup tour. The three-time Olympian became the first American to win a biathlon world championships gold medal in February in the 20-kilometer individual race in Hochfilzen, Austria, then captured two World Cup silver medals before the end of the season last week.

Athletes from around the country will compete for national titles this weekend at the Ethan Allen Biathlon Club, in divisions ranging from youth to masters. Among the competitors will be World Cup and world championships medalist Susan Dunklee, of Barton, Vermont, as well as World Cup biathletes Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), Leif Nordgren (Marine, Minnesota), Maddie Phaneuf (Old Forge), Joanne Reid (Boulder, Colorado) and Paul Schommer (Appleton, Wisconsin).

Competition begins today at 10 a.m., followed by races Saturday and Sunday.
