Concerned about church attendance in Lake Placid

November 10, 2016
Lake Placid News

To the editor:

I am very disappointed with the low attendance that has plagued our churches for the last couple of years. I realize that in these times, young people who are involved in sports have to play on Sunday or not play at all. This hurts our Sunday schools so much.

Even after the death of my husband in March of 2015, I have struggled to maintain my church attendance. I have been the organist at St. Eustace Church for the past 57 years, and that is what keeps me going. I never could have made it to the present time without my faith in God and in my lord and savior Jesus Christ, and without the help and support of my friends at church.

I am nourished and healed each week. I look down at the faithful few on Sundays. If this faith and communion with one another can do this for me, it can do the same thing for others - for you. If we can find time to do the million other things we seem to do on Sundays, surely we can give to our creator, redeemer and sustainer the hour we owe Him. I am a firm believer that this life on earth is all lived in preparation for the world to come. If you DO attend church, bless you for that. If you have been away for a while, please come back, and join us in faith and praise to the Lord our God, so when it is our time to go home, he will say to us, "Well done, good and faithful servants. Enter into the joy of your Lord."

Blessings on you all,

Virginia "Ginny" Haselton
