Don’t complain; lead the way with outdoor PSAs

Lake Placid News

To the editor:

As a lover and longtime advocate for conservation of our wild spaces, I feel the need to challenge you in your opinion regarding public service announcements aimed with the intent to educate and protect our public wild spaces.

While I agree with your position, I disagree with your suggested plan to address it. Instead of waiting for government or some agency to produce a PSA, why don't you lead the way and do it yourself? I managed a small broadcast radio station in Niagara County for many years. As a local "hometown" station, we lead the way on several occasions for many causes. We donated the ad "inventory" and collaborated with many local agencies to craft the messages and broadcast them. I'm sure you, as a publication, have a web and social presence, right? Lead the way! Yes, visitors are from all near and far, but building, growing and leveraging networks is easier than ever ! Start local; think global!

Your opinion piece is a good start, but waiting on others, especially the government, to do something is not the answer!

Quit complaining, and lead the way!
