Andrew A. Morford, 99, of Lake Placid passed away Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at Elizabethtown Community Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Mr. Morford was born Jan. 26, 1917, in AuSable Forks. He is the son of the late Wallace M. and the late Mamie (Banker) Morford. He was the husband of Doretta Mary (Peryea) Morford; she predeceased him March 5, 1999.

Mr. Morford was a graduate of Keeseville High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He served in the Army during World War II from Sept. 5, 1941, to July 27, 1945, under Gen. George Patton, 3rd Army, 6th Armored Division, as a reconnaissance sergeant. He was wounded at Batstone, Belgium. He earned the American Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Purple Heart.

He had worked as a union pipefitter for 15 years. At the time of his retirement, he worked out of the Glens Falls Local 773 union hall.

Mr. Morford loved the outdoors; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed the time he spent at camp with his family and friends. He loved spending time with his friends Carol and Ernie Lantiegne of Mexico, New York, hunting and fishing at Lake Ontario.

He is survived by one daughter, Andrea Morford Lawrence and her husband Adrian P. Lawrence of Wilmington; and two sons: Rickey W. Morford and his wife Ann (Nugent) Morford of Lake Placid, and Ronald J. Morford and his wife Karen of Durango, Colorado. He is also has nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, Walace and Mamie, his wife Doretta and one grandson, Coleman T. Morford.

There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 at the M.B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid with an American Legion prayer service at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Ingrid Johnson and the American Legion Post 326 of Lake Placid will officiate. Cremation will follow. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in AuSable Forks at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Lake Placid Fish and Game Club, P.O. Box 292, 395 Old Military Road, Lake Placid, NY 12946.
