Sculpture makes an impression

Lake Placid News

To the editor:

Nicolas Bruno, artist and photographer, has visited Lake Placid for many years with his parents during the lacrosse tournaments.

When he saw this sculpture, he was fascinated and walked inside. He says it feels like a telescope looking up to the skies, surrounded by bellowing winds through the air. In his own words: "Upon entering the arched doorway, an anomalous wave of auditory and visual experiences cloaks the viewer. The viewer peers into the heavens through the oculus of the tower while wind passes through each window, swirling about in a low humming chorus. First impressions of the tower give a sense of historical military or agricultural architecture. I was amazed to learn that the structure was actually an Olympic sculpture made by Nancy Holt in 1980. I look forward to each summer to have my chance of interaction with the sculpture, both artistically and spiritually."

Nicolas created an image of this sculpture with a wonderful photograph he took. This photograph is on the book "American Gods" and will also be featured in beginning of the new Showtime adaptation from the book also called "American Gods."

I think it is a good idea to get a plaque for this sculpture so that everyone can know what the meaning of it is.
