Reasons to consolidate village, town courts

In August of 2014, the Lake Placid village board passed a resolution directing the Lake Placid-North Elba Development Commission to study "steps that might be taken by the village to create further efficiencies in terms of local government." This led to the formation of an Efficiency Study Group that eventually proposed a consolidation of the village and town courts. The village board accepted this recommendation and took the necessary steps to move forward. On June 28, the voters of the village of Lake Placid have an opportunity to vote on this proposal in a permissive referendum.

The Efficiency Study Group continues to support the consolidation of the village court with the town court for a number of reasons:
