Dorothy "Dotti" Walko McManus, 70, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lake Placid, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, in Boston, Massachusetts, after a long illness of breast cancer.

Born Aug. 13, 1945, in New Britain, Connecticut, she was the youngest child of the late Anne K. and Paul J. Walko.

Dotti was graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 1963 while she spent her summers working as a bank teller, generating an interest in banking and finance. In 1967, she was graduated with a BA in economics from Emmanuel College in Boston, where she was also the editor of her college yearbook. After graduation, Dotti took a job as a portfolio manager at the Old Colony Trust Company, then part of the First National Bank of Boston, marking the beginning of a successful career in the investment business.

She married Brian E. McManus in 1970 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where they lived for several years before moving to Denver, Colorado. There, Dotti continued her career, joining a team of analysts conducting private company valuations.

While living in the Rockies, she became an accomplished powder skier, an avid tennis player, a sailor and an amateur photographer. After the birth of her daughter Alison, Dotti became a devoted and loving mother, volunteering a large part of her time for Alison's many educational, athletic and extracurricular activities. Dotti was always very warm, kind and friendly, and was selfless in her willingness to help others. After 11 years in Colorado, her family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Dotti quickly immersed herself in her new community and made many friends. She sat on the board of the Gifted Students Institute for many years and was a strong advocate for providing access to advanced and accelerated education for all students.

Dotti remained active throughout her life in various community organizations, and she and her husband were avid patrons and supporters of the arts; however, her family and friends remained her greatest devotion.

She is survived by her husband Brian E. McManus and daughter Alison E. McManus of Fort Worth, Texas; her brother Robert Walko and his wife Rita of New Britain, Connecticut; and cousins Emily Panchuk of Middle Village, New York, David Walko of Bristol, Connecticut, and Francine Walko of Plainville, Connecticut.

Her nephew Paul Walko preceded her in death.

There will be a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid with a reception to follow.

The family has asked for no gifts or donations.
