Artist Joseph Anthony Capozio, 88, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, in Plattsburgh.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Aug. 26, 1927.

After serving in World War II, he attended art school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He lived and worked in San Francisco, California; New Orleans, Louisiana; Siesta Key, Florida; Asheville, North Carolina; and Madison, Wisconsin, before settling in the Adirondacks, Wilmington, where he lived for most of the last 30 years.

Primarily an artist and gallery co-owner with his wife, Stevie, his work is in private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. In addition, he was a textile designer, illustrator and furniture designer.

He is survived by his wife, Stevie of Wilmington; his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Joseph Serino of Rutherford, New Jersey; his grandchildren Rebecca Williams, Stanley and Luciano Serino of Rutherford, New Jersey; and his brother Nicholas of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by his stepchildren Jamison Bowman, Michael Bowman and Alison Follos.

Cremation and ceremony are private.
