Dorice M. Torrance

Dorice M. Torrance, 90, of Lake Placid, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2016 at the University of Vermont Health Network/CVPH Medical Center of Plattsburgh.

Mrs. Torrance was born Feb. 24, 1925 in Lake Placid. She was the daughter of Guy G. and Alta I. (Taylor) Wescott. She married Loren W. Torrance April 23, 1951. Loren predeceased her in 1990.

She was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, class of 1943. In her early years Dorice had worked as a telephone operator at the Lake Placid Club. She was also employed by Gilbane Building Company, the general contractor for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. She had worked as a medical secretary for Dr. Munyan, Dr. Hook and Dr. Weeks.

She is survived by two daughters: Alta Dostal and her husband Arthur of Easthampton, Massachusetts and Carol Hoffman and her husband Doug of Lake Placid; two sons: Arti Torrance of Lake Placid and Loren W. Torrance Jr. and his wife Laurie of Marietta; two sisters: Alta Klimmer of Tennessee and Mary Merrill of Lake Placid; one brother, Alton Wescott and his wife Sheila of Lake Placid; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Wescott of Lake Placid.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her parents, Guy G. and Alta I. Wescott; her husband Loren Torrance; her son Ward Wilbur; two brothers: Guy Wescott and Robert Wescott; and two sisters: Joyce Hill and Shirley Seney.

Calling hours were held from 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, Feb. 21 at the M. B. Clark Inc. funeral home in Lake Placid. A funeral service was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21 at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid. The Rev. John Martin officiates. Burial followed at North Elba Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department in her memory.
