Disappointed in NY funding decision

December 17, 2015
Lake Placid News

(This is an open letter to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.)

Dear Gov. Cuomo:

Many of us were very disappointed to learn that funding to upgrade the Olympic venues was not awarded through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative! If any, granting the region funds to upgrade the Olympic venues should be a "no-brainer."

Upgrading those venues is a great investment. Just consider the trickle-down, economic effect! Upgraded venues generates tourism, guaranteed, which generates business and revenue for businesses, which, in turn, generates tax revenue for the state, counties and municipalities. The added business, as well as the project work itself, also increases employment, broadening the tax base, and again generating more taxes. The return on investing in our Olympic venues would basically be self-funding.

Are there state or federal subsidized infrastructure loans or other grants that can be applied for?

A big thank you to the North Country leaders for all their efforts in trying to secure funding! They did a great job with their proposals. Let's continue the effort and be optimistic.

Let's bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics!

Thank you.
