Lyman Kipp created sculpture for Mill Pond, not the Winter Olympics

November 19, 2015
Lake Placid News

To the editor:

Congratulations to the Lake Placid Center for the Arts and the village of Lake Placid for providing an appropriate setting for displaying the Lyman Kipp sculpture and for all the volunteers who have assisted this process. One correction though, Lyman did not create the sculpture for the 1980 Winter Olympics, but rather for the Mill Pond Dam restoration project led by then village Trustee Jack Barry, an effort that had as one of its goals drawing attention to the historic importance and continued vitality of the Newman section of the village.
