Solar power more affordable

October 22, 2015
Lake Placid News

To the editor:

Solarize Tri-Lakes is nearing the end of its five-month campaign to bring clean, renewable solar energy to the Tri-Lakes region. Nearly 50 residents or small businesses have signed up to install solar to date, and now there is an extra incentive for lower-income residents.

On Oct. 9, NYSERDA announced a new program to expand access to solar energy to households most in need of electricity cost reductions. For income-eligible households (earning less than 80 percent of local median income), Affordable Solar doubles NY-Sun incentives for residential solar projects, lowering for the homeowner the total upfront cost of the solar installation. The Solarize Tri-Lakes discounted price of $3.15 per watt becomes $2.15 per watt (whereas $2.65 is the price for ineligible households). Additional information on this newly created program can be found at, or ask one of the Apex Solar sales reps by signing up at

There are only a few weeks left until Solarize Tri-Lakes' Nov. 1 deadline. Contracts must be signed by this date to qualify for the campaign's discounted rate and to ensure installation before the end of 2015. To sign up for a free, no-obligation solar assessment for your home or small business, visit or call 518-891-5212.
