William George Young of Lake Placid and Bayville, New Jersey, passed away on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, surrounded by his wife, two daughters, stepson and step daughter.

Bill was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on June 15, 1932, to William Herry Young and Edith (Palmer) Young.

He married Patricia Joan Diodaon on Aug. 21, 1952.

He served in the Navy as a young man and then worked at United Airlines for many years rising to an in-flight supervisor. He moved to Lake Placid in 1983.

He was remarried on Aug. 31, 1989, to Linda Shaw.

He then worked at the Crowne Plaza (Holiday Inn) until his retirement.

While living in Bayville he was a volunteer fireman and worked with the Sports League building a baseball field that was later dedicated to a local Major League pitcher. He spent his retirement years assisting at the food pantry.

Bill was an avid reader and loved music, and sports, especially baseball and basketball. He was a kind, articulate, warm, family man known for his sense of humor.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Linda (Shaw) Young; his four children: Sue (Young) Metcalfe and husband Mike, Gail (Young) Billerman and husband Bill, Bill Young Jr. and wife Lee, and Robin (Young) Foster; and his stepchildren: Robert and Heather Shaw, and Patricia Shaw; and his grandchildren: Chris Brooks, Darrah Sborea, Cori Deans, Kayte Billerman, Matt Young, Andrew Foster, Kevin Foster, Nicholas Shaw and Lauren Shaw.

He was predeceased by his wife Patricia Joan Young in 1985 and his two sisters: Doris Vitella and Daisy Hazzard.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Jewtraw Park, Station Street in Lake Placid. All are welcome.
