Please help a dog and family in need

September 10, 2015
Lake Placid News

To the editor:

A tragedy occurred in Keeseville when a reckless driver plowed into a front yard and hit the the family dog, who was enjoying time with her family. Thankfully, the three children, ages 5, 11 and 14, were in the house when the dark-colored pickup truck turned their lives upside down. The driver knew what happened but chose to drive off, leaving the children to run out of the house to see their dog covered in blood and hear her screaming in pain.

Shiloh was rushed to the veterinarian, and upon examination, one back leg has a compound fracture, her opposite hip is dislocated. Her legs were stripped of fur and skin because the truck bounced her body into the air and, when she landed, she skidded across the blacktop.

The Joshua Fund Dog Rescue, located in Lake Placid, is trying to raise funds for the veterinary bills for Shiloh. This family is not able to afford the money needed to save their dog, so The Joshua Fund is currently running a fundraiser to help pay for Shiloh's care. They're also spearheading a dog toy drive for Shiloh, placing drop-off boxes in various local businesses. The vet bills will total in excess of $5,000; the donated toys will help the children deal with this tragedy in a positive way. The Joshua Fund is asking for your help so the children can have their dog home once again and can experience the love of their community.
