Dorothy C. Schiller

Dorothy Carolyn Schiller, daughter of Charles and Bertha Nietzer, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 at the age of 96.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1919 in Jeffersonville. After living in Queens, Long Island, Newark, New York, and Florida, she moved to Lake Placid in 1988 and resided there ever since.

Dorothy is survived by her son Robert Schiller, daughter-in-law Cheryl Schiller, granddaughter Christine Lawas and husband Thomas Gill, and granddaughter Carrie Westergard; a great-granddaughter Claire Westergard and great-grandsons: Zachary Lawas, Lucas Lawas and Chase Westergard; a sister-in-law Evelyn Nietzer, and step-grandchildren: Eli Lawas, Matthew Gill and Erin Gill.

Dorothy is predeceased by her loving husband, Carl F. Schiller, who passed away in 1985.

After moving to Lake Placid, Dorothy became an active volunteer in the community.

She volunteered at the Ecumenical Thrift Shop, Adirondack Medical Center, Lake Placid Central School District, and Uihlein Living Center. Her hobbies and interests included playing bridge, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, reading, enjoying nature and the outdoors, watching sports on television, attending church, and interacting with friends and family.

After a long and active life, Dorothy will be missed by many. She loved people and very much enjoyed our beautiful Adirondacks and village.

It was Dorothy's wish that donations in her honor be given to Hospice or the Humane Society c/o M.B. Clark Funeral Home.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Dorothy C. Schiller will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid. A reception to follow at Erdman Hall in the Church.

The M. B. Clark Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
