Petra A. (Benz) St. Louis

Petra Angela (Benz) St. Louis, 54, of Lake Placid, formally Rouses Point, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Mercy Living Center in Tupper Lake with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Petra was born on Aug. 22, 1960 in Frankfurt, Germany, the daughter of Charles Emerson Dickens, and the late Ilse Benz Jolly. She was a member of the Saranac High School graduating class of 1979.

After Petra left school, she was employed throughout the Champlain region until finding her niche as a Developmental Aide for the New York state Sunmount DDSO in Rouses Point.

Petra was married to Mark Stephen St. Louis in Plattsburgh on July 21, 1984 and together they became the proud parents of one son, Jeremiah Jason St. Louis.

Petra was known for her infectious laughter and her unwavering determination when faced with a challenge. Petra overcame unbelievable obstacles during her short life and has taught many, that life is what you make it.

Petra is survived by her son Jeremiah J. St. Louis and wife Nicole (Churco) St. Louis of Lake Placid; her father Charles E. Dickens and wife Barbara (Jones) of Whitesville, West Virginia; her two half sisters: Loretta Vandeborne of Tampa, Florida and Michelle Estep of Charleston, West Virginia; nieces: Christina Paul and her husband Bryce and their daughter Norah of Huntington, West Virginia, Kaylynn and Narissa Estep both of West Virginia; two nephews: Trevor Estep of West Virginia and Allen Vandeborne of Florida; and of course, her dearest friends, whom have been her family for years.

Petra was predeceased in death by her mother Ilse Benz Jolly.

Calling hours are scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 6 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral home in Tupper Lake.
