We love the closing line in Steve Lester's Lake Placid Sinfonietta review this week in which he summed up the 2014 season and looked toward the following year.
"To those who may feel the area caters to the needs of little more than hikers, schussboomers and pubescent hockey goons, there is always the Sinfonietta to prove otherwise," he wrote.
Bravo, Steve, for highlighting the fact that the Olympic Village has deep roots in the arts world, whether it's music or otherwise. We publish an Arts Page every week specifically because the arts - like sports - help give us a nurturing foundation for the lives of residents and visitors.
While there are ample arts venues in the region, the Lake Placid Center for the Arts provides our community with a diverse offering of cultural programs throughout the year, and we can't imagine life here without it. For this reason, we encourage our readers to participate in the Run the Colors of the Arts, a 5k fun run benefiting the LPCA on Saturday, Aug. 16 at the North Elba Horse Show Grounds.
On-site registration will begin at 9 a.m., and the race will begin at 10 a.m. Entry fees are $20 per person or $39 for an entire family. Immediately after the race, the LPCA will host a family-friendly post-race picnic featuring arts and crafts, games and food available for purchase from Green Goddess Natural Food Market. Advance registration is recommended at www.lakeplacidarts.org.
This is a perfect way to marry sports and arts in our community, have loads of fun and support our world-class arts center. This is an un-timed, non-competitive event. For complete race details, visit the LPCA website.
