SARANAC LAKE -?More than 30 years ago, a newly trained family physician responded to a simple help wanted sign posted on the marquee of the Lake Placid Olympic Center.

The connection was instant the job, the community, the mountains and the people. Dr. Woods McCahill quickly became the family doctor for many area residents, and was equally known for his passion for outdoor activities particularly skiing and running.

His top priority has always been and continues to be the health and well being of his patients, which is why he was this year's recipient of the Dr. Edward L. Trudeau Award. The award honors those who demonstrate the qualities of courage, compassion and generosity in their service to Adirondack Health. As his patients, friends and family would attest, Dr. McCahill exemplifies all of these qualities and more.

More than $127,000 was raised and will be dedicated to capital expenditures to enhance patient and resident care throughout the health system. Through generous community support, the Adirondack Health Foundation strives to raise, invest and distribute funds in a manner that enables Adirondack Health to meet the future healthcare needs of our region.

"The Gala provides an opportunity to honor an exceptional individual who has served Adirondack Health and our region as well as raise critically important funds in support of our health system," said Hannah Hanford, Executive Director of the Adirondack Health Foundation. "We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary items donated for the auction, to all who attended or contributed, and to a truly outstanding committee. "

Past recipients of the Trudeau Award include Sen. Betty Little and Harry A. Jacobs Jr., a long-serving member of the Adirondack Health Foundation.
