No doubt - it's busy. The 25th annual Summit Lacrosse Tournament has brought about 5,000 players to town - as can be seen on any day this week in Lake Placid - and August is also one of the most popular times of year for family vacations.
For those visiting the Adirondacks, we at the Lake Placid News give you our warmest welcome. Our Placid Planner (page B2) and Arts page (A6) are full of things to do while you're here, including a wide variety of live bands, excellent theater done by local and visiting casts and crews, ballet, author visits, nature walks and talks, and Lake Placid's own Sinfonietta. Plus there are dozens of wonderful restaurants and shops, movies at the Palace Theatre and limitless outdoor activities. Find a swimming hole, hike a mountain, take a boat out on the water, wet a fishing line, or play some of kind of sport. Dig in.
Can-Am Rugby, the new waterski tournament, Ironman and the horse shows are already behind us, and Summit Lacrosse is the last big event of the summer. Still, it's hard to believe school is only four weeks away.
Wait - forget we said that.
Summer days are to be treasured. Go make some memories.
