To the editor:
Well, here we are, a couple of Floridians for the eighth out of the past nine summers. Having lived in Potsdam and Tupper back in the 1970s, we find the Lake Placid area the ideal place to escape the hot Florida summers. We will be here for six weeks. Why six weeks? Because the Lake Placid Sinfonietta has a six-week season.
The Sinfonietta is our number attraction that keeps us coming back. How fortunate you and we are to have this group of gifted musicians, some of the most talented in this country. Lead by Ron Spigelman, those who attend Sunday night performances not only hear the musicians' magic but they also learn about the structure of the music and the historical and cultural influences that formed the composer's magic from Maestro Spigelman. We have attended many symphony orchestra performances in this country but have never had the intimacy of a post-performance wine and cheese receptions attended by the performers, maestro, board members and attendees. Folks, if you have not yet experienced the majesty of the Sinfonietta, it's not too late to start now.
Of course, Lake Placid and the surrounding area offer a plentiful variety of pleasantries for its summer residents and guests. We love the back to back horse shows and the Ironman. The Saturday night skating performances and summer ski jumping offer a grand treat for these Floridians who have few opportunities to see these reminders of our early years. The Wild Center is a great new venue. And we are all blessed by the accessibility and raw beauty of the forests, mountains, wild life, rivers and lakes.
Thank you Lake Placid, Saranac and Tupper Lake for opening your hearts and doors to us and our fellow tourists. You are the best!
