WILMINGTON - A Peru man was hospitalized Wednesday, June 4 after his motorcycle crashed into the back of a car near the entrance to the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center.

State police said the crash took place around 10:50 a.m. as Benjamin F. Key, 30, was traveling east on state Route 86 on a 1996 Kawasaki motorcycle behind a 2012 Volkswagon Golf driven by Francois M. Yassa, 62, of Williamstown, Ontario.

Yassa passed the entrance to the ski center, slowed down suddenly and started to pull over to the right shoulder, police said. Troopers said Key was following too closely and his motorcycle struck the back of Yassa's VW Golf.

Key was ejected from the bike and landed in the eastbound lane of the road. Police said he suffered a back injury and was transported by ambulance to Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid, where he was treated and released.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said they didn't know if any tickets were issued.
