Village police probe assault of Lake Placid man

A local man was in intensive care at a Vermont hospital after he was allegedly assaulted over the weekend.

Kian Cann of Lake Placid "was assaulted for protecting a young Lake Placid lady," his mother, Heidi Little, told the Adirondack Daily Enterprise in a Facebook message. "He was brutally kicked in the back of the head."

Cann spent the rest of the weekend in the intensive care unit at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vermont, where he was taken by ambulance. He was moved on Monday afternoon to the hospital's neurological floor, said Little, a former Saranac Lake resident who now lives in Buda, Texas.

Cann was in good condition this morning, according to hospital officials, who said he was listed under the name Kian Little-Cann.

Village police say they're still probing the incident and provided the newspaper with few other details about the case.

"We're investigating a complaint of a possible assault at a residence on Saranac Avenue," said police Sgt. Chuck Dobson.

Dobson said the assault took place sometime Friday night. He said police have a suspect in the case but that person hasn't been charged because the investigation is continuing. He said reports indicate several other people were in the residence at the time of the alleged assault, and not all of those people have been interviewed yet.

Beyond that, Dobson didn't provide any details about how or why Cann was assaulted.

Little said she and Cann's 8-year-old sister flew to Burlington from Texas after they heard what happened.

Cann works at Generations Restaurant in Lake Placid, according to his Facebook page.

He went to Saranac Lake High School and is originally from Regina, Saskatchewan.
