LAKE PLACID - Lake Placid Elementary School Principal Brian Latella was caught hanging around the hallway Friday, May 9 - literally.

And it was students who put him there, duct taped on the wall for the entire afternoon.

It is a tradition at the school for the principal to do something wacky if the students are successful in the Read Across America Challenge. They were asked to read a book from each state. The school totaled 200 states with more than 350 books read.

Latella challenged the students to read 200 states. If they met that challenge, he agreed to be taped to the wall, with each student participating the taping. The more books they read, the longer the piece of duct tape they used.

Haley Donatello and Lydia Bullock read the most books in the upper grades, and Greeley Ward, Mya Marshall and Lexi Coffin read the most in the lower grades.

The taping began at 12:20 p.m., and Latella was taken down when the students left the building around 3 p.m.
