PLATTSBURGH - Ryan Damp scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period Thursday night to lead the Lake Placid boys hockey team to a 3-2 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Beekmantown.
The Blue Bombers are 9-0 in conference games and 17-2 overall going into their final regular season game Saturday on the road against Plattsburgh. The CVAC playoffs are scheduled to begin next Thursday and Lake Placid is assured the top seed for the tournament.
Beekmantown tied the game at 2-2 at the 7:04 mark of the third period when Kyle Constanty put in a rebound. Nate Foster and Brendan Davidson were credited with assists on the play.
Damp connected for the game-winner at 8:29 of the third period, with assists going to Elias Smith and Shane McNierney.
Beekmantown took an early lead with a power-play goal at 8:20 of the first period, but Lake Placid responded with a score by Connor Preston 5:58 into the second. The Blue Bombers took the lead at 13:22 of the second when Chris Williams found the back of the net.
Damp finished with a goal and an assist, while McNierney had two assists.
Beekmantown outshot Lake Placid 32-27, but Blue Bombers goaltender Tucker Angelopoulos was up to the challenge with 30 saves to his credit. Beekmantown goalie Dustin Plumadore stopped 24 shots.
The Eagles fell to 7-2 in CVAC games and 14-4-1 overall with the loss.
Lake Placid is ranked sixth in the latest Division II state poll.
