Thanks for giving ’13

November 27, 2013
Lake Placid News

To the Editor:

At Thanksgiving time, the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service expresses appreciation to the community for their support during 2013. It has been an exciting year settling into the new addition but with several difficult challenges.

First, gratitude is extended to the volunteer members and paid staff who have responded to more than 1,000 emergency response calls so far this year. The pace is about three calls per day.

LPVAS appreciated support from individuals and businesses, the Town of North Elba, Ice Out Benefit, Memorial donations, the Kingsley Foundation and especially our savoir, Henry and Mildred Uihlein Foundation.

Acknowledgement of gifts in kind go to LPVAS medical director, Dr. Michael Pond; Douglas Hoffman, CPA, with Dragon Benware CPAs; John Huttlinger, CPA at Adirondack Audit Company; the Lake Placid Police; fire department; electric, highway and water departments; Ginny Haselton; Mary Hardy; the Ice Meisters; families who choose LPVAS for memorial gifts; Lake Placid Visitors Bureau; and mutual aid support from the Saranac Lake, Keene and Wilmington ambulance squads.

The new addition is now occupied! four vehicles are inside at our convenient location in the village serving a vital community service.

The Downes Family Tree Farm Christmas tree sale starts the weekend of Nov. 29. Again this year, it will be held at the LPVAS station at 388 Mill Pond Drive. You are encouraged to support this sale benefiting LPVAS and visit the renovated facility.
