There are certain habits we all have that we enjoy because they enrich our lives, offer us new experiences and help us connect with the things and people we love. For me, it's walking with my husband and dog around Mirror Lake on weekends and being inspired by the things I see and the people I meet.
This past Sunday it was a bit windy and spitting snow, and we met only a few hardy souls going around the lake. It was no surprise that out working on this gloomy Sunday afternoon was Conni Cross, with another lady. She is the head honcho of the Lake Placid Beautification society, so there is no rest for the weary. They were putting evergreen trees and branches into the potting barrels around the lake - no simple task and no job for the feeble bodied (as you could see from this fit bunch of ladies featured on the cover of the new Garden Club calendar.) Yet Conni has worked diligently doing this for years because of her love and commitment to make a difference in Lake Placid.
I know there are so many in our region who live here because they love the people and the quaintness of this small community. It doesn't matter whether these people are year-round residents or just here for an occasional visit - there is a sense they have expressed that this is their home and their refuge from the rest of the world.
As a local newspaper, the Lake Placid News are committed to capture this unique essence in the people we cover in our community. We are always looking to tell interesting stories that you won't read anywhere else by any other media.
We will give you insight into local issues and topics affecting you with compelling facts and personal accounts that will leave you pondering, discussing and engaging.
Our focus is on people who have interesting stories to tell, perhaps with an unusual history, surprising background, impressive achievements or a life-altering experience that will leave you inspired or emotionally moved.
So let us know your ideas on topics or a special person that you would like us give a deeper and closer look to showcase in the Lake Placid News.
